Dear Sir
In remembrance
of the old days of
Scutari, may I
venture to send
you a copy of my
Report to the War
Office? It is an old
story now. But
the good sense, the
unalterable patience

1. Colonel Walker is likely to have been Sir Charles Pyndar Beauchamp Walker (1817-1894). However, according the Dictionary of National Biography, Walker would only have been a lieutenant-colonel (2nd dragoon guards) in 1858 and did not receive his award as Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C. B.) until February 26, 1861.
