Dear Mrs. Brownlow
I was quite uneasy
not to have heard
sooner than I did
of your arrival. I
am very glad to hear
that you are comfortable
you do not tell me
whether you know
your husband again.
I suppose by this time
you are at the Monastery
Yours truly
F Nightingale
I hope Bessie is well.

1. Mrs. Brownlow was a women held in high regard by Miss Nightingale. Not technically one of the nurses sent to the Crimea, she was nevertheless of invaluable assistance to Nightingale. In several post-Crimea reports, Mrs. Brownlow was described by Nightingale as "one who has done good service". Mrs. Brownlow's husband was a "Pay Serjeant of the Coldstream Guards". Bessie was the Brownlow's infant daughter. (Goldie, 1987, p. 188).
