| Piorry, Pierre Adolphe (1794-1879).
Traite de medicine pratique.
Atlas de plessimetrisme ouvrage indispensable pour apprendre soi-meme le plessimetrisme, Paris, J.B. Bailliere, 1851.
Piorry invented the feeling of resistance upon which he laid great emphasis. The form of his ivory pleximeter was that of a tolerably large semicircle with two lateral rims and a centimeter scale upon the straight edge. The pleximeter caught the imagination and was popular. So much so that for many years new models were devised rivaling in number and variety the numerous stethoscopes and vaginal speculums that have at various times been put on the market. |
