A system of surgery.

"Bell studied under the Monros at Edinburgh. He was surgeon to the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh for 29 years. He improved the methods of amputation, introducing the " triple incision of Bell". This is his best work" (Morton's Medical Bibliography, Fifth Edition, Edited by Jeremy M. Norman)..

"Brother of Charles Bell and a lecturer in anatomy at Edinburgh. He established the first private anatomy school in Edinburgh, and published Anatomy of Human Body in 1783 and The Principles of Surgery in 1801" (A Dictionary of the History of Medicine).
