"Earliest printed textbook for midwives. It survived 40 editions, being used as late as 1730. An English translation by Richard Jonas was published in 1540, printed by Thomas Raynalde. This translation, entitled 'The Byrth of Mankynde' was the first book on the subject to be printed in English. There were three variant editions in 1513, for which no clear priority has been established. All were printed from different type by different printers. One is dated and the other two are not, One was reproduced in facismile in 1910 at Munich and at Zurich, J. Stocker, 1977" (Morton's Medical Bibliography, Fifth Edition, Edited by Jeremy M.
