Opera anatomica. De formato foetu. De formatione ovi, and pulli. De locutione, and ejus instrumentis. De brutorum loquela. De venarum ostiolis.
Patavii, Sumptibus Antonii Megliette, 1625.
"He was the effective founder of the modern embryology and the author of the first illustrated work on that subject, in which he describes the formation of the chick in the egg" (Singer).
"Fabricius wrote at great length on embryology, inventing many theories, some of which were false. His illustrations marked a great advance on previous work. Fabricius recorded for the first time the dissection of several embryos.Fabricius, discovered the venous valves, and illustrated them in life-size copperplates. He failed to recognize their true function, however, considering this to be merely a delaying of the blood flow. This work must have influenced Harvey to turn his experimental efforts toward an accurate explanation for the existence of the venous valves. This line of research eventually led him to develop an accurate knowledge of how the circulation worked" (Morton's Medical Bibliography, Fifth Edition, Edited by Jeremy M. Norman)..
